Born in Savur, Turkey, Sancar excelled in academics and pursued a career in medicine and later molecular biology.

Dr. Aziz Sancar’s journey to the Nobel Prize in Chemistry is a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for scientific exploration. Born into a lower-middle-class family in Savur, Turkey, Sancar’s parents, despite being uneducated themselves, recognized the value of education and encouraged all their children to pursue knowledge. Excelling in school, he developed a deep love for science and dreamed of playing soccer for the national team. However, recognizing that his true calling lay in the field of science, he set his sights on higher education and a career that would make a significant impact.
