I do, too.
Everyone, from my granddaughter’s parents to relatives and close friends, has their ideas about the gift. As for me, I’ve been pondering the perfect gift. My grandmother was born in 1900, and my granddaughter will be born in 2020. The span of my intimate human relationships now stretches across 120 years by now. Scientists predict that girls born today in America will live for 100 years. So, my unborn granddaughter is expected to have a century ahead of her. My memories will persist in her thoughts, so the span of my human relationships will extend by another hundred years. A part of me will be passed on to future generations. That’s why the act of giving a gift that is unique and implies some meaning to her is so significant. I will kiss her as affectionately as my grandmother used to kiss me, perhaps even more so?”
